For oval bottles, measure the minor axis to avoid side-wall interference.
Standard bottles often quote "E-Height" on technical drawings; if absent, use a digital height gauge or request CAD from the bottle supplier. Tube outer diameter is typically 3.0 mm for 28/410 necks and 2.3 mm for 24/410; wall thickness 0.5 mm balances flexibility and crush resistance.
Material choice matters. LDPE offers superior flexibility for 360° bottles but swells in d-limonene-based cleaners; PP is rigid and chemical-resistant but can fracture at -20 °C. For bleach, specify HDPE tube with UV inhibitor to prevent yellowing. For food applications, FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 compliant resin is mandatory and must be documented in the supplier's Letter of Guarantee.
Cutting method affects performance. A 45° angled cut increases uptake area and prevents vacuum lock when the tube rests flat on the bottle bottom. Burr-free cuts are achieved using pneumatic tube cutters; scissor cuts leave burrs that can block the filter ball. Some premium trigger sprayers now ship with a rotating foot that self-orients to the lowest liquid point, extending usable volume to 98 %.
Quality control should include 0.5 bar vacuum test for 30 s to verify no side-wall collapse and a 1 m drop with tube installed to ensure no kink-induced flow restriction. Dip-tube length tolerances should be ±0.5 mm; anything looser risks the above failure modes. Provide suppliers with both bottle drawing and sample bottles to validate fit before mass production.
