European polypropylene contract prices fell 5 % in Q3 2024 to EUR 1,130 per tonne, the lowest since Q4 2021, as cracker outages eased and import offers from the Middle East flooded the market.

The slide directly benefits EU compounders who supply food-grade PP to Chinese trigger sprayer factories, shaving USD 0.008 off resin cost per unit and widening moulder margin 7 % without adjusting FOB Shanghai quotes.

Buyers holding EUR-denominated contracts see a 4 % FX tailwind versus USD pricing, making European-sourced PP trigger sprayers competitive with Asian imports for the first time since 2022.

Spot resin is forecast to remain soft through Q1 2025 due to new 450 kt capacity start-ups in Belgium and Netherlands, suggesting trigger sprayer piece-prices could hold flat even if oil rallies. Brands should lock Q4 resin now to capture the dip and insulate 2025 COGS forecasts.
